The WELCOME Program

Mission and Objective

The WELCOME Program is the result of a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to enhance educational outcomes and college experiences for first-year students at CCNY. It is implemented via a collaboration between the Office for Experiential Learning and the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership. WELCOME aims to provide support for first semester college students, with the overall goal of increasing retention and improving graduation outcomes. The program hopes to achieve this goal through fostering communities of learners and enhancing student services.

Selection for the program depends on the following eligibility requirements:

Students must be in their first or second semester of college (regardless of credits) and must not be transfer students
Students must demonstrate an interest in Psychology, Economics, and/or International & Global Studies
Students may not be eligible if they have have a combination of AP or college-level transfer credits in English Composition, Psychology, Microeconomics, or International & Global Studies
Students are not eligible if they are participating in the Honors or SEEK programs at CCNY
Students are not eligible if they have already signed up for WELCOME during a previous semester, regardless of selection

Key Features of the Program

$90 OMNY Card

All students receive a $90 OMNY card when they sign up for WELCOME!

Foundational Courses

Selected students enroll in three foundational courses (some combination of Psychology, Microeconomics, International Studies, Composition, and Bridges to Success) alongside a cohort of 25 peers.

Proactive Academic Advising

WELCOME students are paired with an Academic Advisor who supports them with with course registration, degree-mapping, and financial aid.

Student Support

WELCOME students also benefit from peer mentoring, financial support, wellness coaching, and additional student support services.
